What is a Virtual Reality (VR)
Panorama?
The viewer is at the center of a scene, with the ability to
"look" (pan) right or left in that view. The panorama could be
a simple wide-angle scene or a more complex 360º scene. For example:
Standing in the middle of a room, you could get a full 360º view of the
entire room.
How is a VR Panorama created?
From one to multiple (depending on the lens used) digital still photos
are taken of the scene. The photos are uploaded into a computer and
"stitched" or joined together (if necessary) with special
software to form a continuous and seamless panorama image. The image is
digitally edited to ensure uniform quality, and HTML and Java code is
created to control the display.
How is a VR Panorama displayed on a web page?
A Java Applet is used to display and control the image, and HTML code is
generated to implement the applet. That HTML code is then inserted into
the web page where the panorama is to be displayed. When the browser
opens the page, the applet is automatically loaded and the panorama is
displayed on the screen. No special plug-ins are required if the
viewer's browser is capable of supporting Java.
